Group Fitness Class Descriptions

Island Gym provides award-winning group fitness classes at all four locations in Atlantic County.  Choose from a variety of over 90 classes scheduled per week.  Our group exercise programs provide a fun, safe, well balanced, effective workout.  We offer a selection of classes that focus on everything you're looking for from cardiovascular conditioning, strength, flexibility, to mind/body awareness.

Don't worry! Our classes are geared for all of levels of fitness, including beginner to advance.  We provide introductory classes to get you started and advanced technique classes to keep you motivated and on track. Island Gym’s world class instructors are the best in town. They are sure to keep you focused and entertained as you transform your mind and body into the best shape of your life.  For class times and locations, a copy of the group fitness schedule can be located at the member center in each club. We encourage that you read the following class descriptions so that you may get the most from your workout and remain injury free.  Our instructors are always here to help you, and to answer any of your questions.  Please alert the instructor if you are a beginner to group exercise, become ill, or need special assistance.

GROUP POWER is Island Gym's signature class for one reason: It’s the perfect workout, and it's only available at Island Gym. This 60- minute choreographed weight training class is designed for all levels of fitness. Have no fear, Group Power focuses on teamwork and strengthens all your major muscle groups one song at a time. Group Power will deliver results in just two classes per week! ZUMBA - Let the Party Begin!  Who knew working out could be this much fun, until now!  Zumba is here at Island Gym.  Zumba® fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, love to work out and to get hooked. Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of calorie burning, body energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!

INSANITY is a revolutionary cardio-based total body conditioning program based on the principles of MAX Interval Training. By using MAX Interval Training, INSANITY pushes the participant to new training heights, resulting in more calories burned, faster results, and a more efficient metabolism. INSANITY’s interval training is the pinnacle of cardio training.  INSANITY is a pre designed interval class that requires no equipment and is easy to learn and fun to participate in. INSANITY Rounds (released every other month) offer participants the opportunity to a challenging class with heart-thumping, well-timed music. The group-exercise adaptation of this workout has been designed to give participants a safe, challenging, and results-driven experience.  INSANITY is driven by motivating music and the direction of the instructor. This training program takes into consideration the special needs of group exercise participants by providing a variety of modifications for all fitness levels.

Barre30 is a full-body workout that fuses the best elements of ballet, Pilates, sports conditioning and stretching for a truly unique and fun experience. The moves are low impact but high-intensity intervals of strength training using a towel and resistance bands with a focus on evenly sculpting and elongating muscles.

PILOXING uniquely mixes Pilates and boxing moves into a fat torching, muscle sculpting, core-centric interval workout, guaranteed to whip you into shape, using a class format that’s both fun and challenging.  At the core of PILOXING is the principle that feminine is powerful and it aims for women to attain a sleek, sexy and powerful self-image.  PILOXING blends the power, speed, and agility of boxing with the beautiful sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. Add to that the fun and sexy dance moves that reflect Viveca's personality.

Mommies-- bring your baby or toddler, and get ready for a great all over body workout! This class incorporates cardio & strength training with a baby in a front carrier or your toddler by your side. Then it moves to focused mat core work while holding and lifting your little one. Class ends with a lullaby stretch. Ages 0-4.

You want high-energy? Here it is: GROUP STEP "N" SCULPT!  If you’re on a tight schedule, then get it all right here. With easy to follow steps and hi/lo moves, toning/sculpting session, weights, bands, abs, and maybe a surprise or two, Group Step n Sculpt delivers an awesome workout.

GROUP POWER PILATES will lengthen and slim your muscles for the look you want. Focus on breath and alignment while increasing your strength, flexibility, and balance. Our welcoming instructors will guide you toward centering the body and developing strength in the abdominals and torso muscles.

GROUP CARDIO KICKBOX brings it on! This electric 60-minute fusion class of martial arts and boxing movements will kick your tail to the next fitness level. Our instructors will define and shape your body to some high-energy music. Mix up your routine with Group Cardio Kickbox today!

GROUP CARDIO SCULPT is the perfect workout for those who want cardio and strength training in one 60 minute workout! Our energized instructors will target individual muscle groups with a variety of low impact aerobics, step aerobics, kickboxing, strength training, and sculpting. Core conditioning plus stretching concludes this class.

GROUP HIP HOP - This class uses simple hip hop moves combined with upbeat music to keep you moving the whole time. Hip Hop is a great class to get your cardio workout, and have fun while doing it!  All levels break down and build up the choreography of dance combinations which are filled with today’s freshest music and hottest style!

GROUP POWER YOGA develops concentration, strength and reduces stress. Power Yoga goes beyond the relaxation benefits of traditional yoga by offering a route to health and fitness that participants of all levels will embrace. Focus on developing strength, endurance, correct body alignment, flexibility, and relaxation through a series of sequencing postures.

Want a full body workout? You got it! A killer combination of cardiovascular and muscle conditioning drills and exercises will get your blood pumping. Welcome to the ultimate calorie burner. Welcome to BOOT CAMP!

The ultimate therapeutic stress reliever! Your hands will be taped up so you can get into character and blow off some steam in GROUP BOXX. This training circuit will rotate you through the heavy bag, jump rope, bike, stability ball, Bosu ball, and Mitt training for the ultimate in conditioning.

Expect to work everything with GROUP TOTAL BODY! This hour will consist of bands, stability balls, barbells, dumbbells, jump ropes, and even steps to create this full body strength and conditioning circuit. All choreographed to music; this class is one of a kind and available only at Island Gym.

This 30-minute quickie will torch your abs! GROUP AB ATTACK will flatten and tone your abs with crunches, curls, and pelvic twists. Whether your goal is a washboard stomach or a stronger core, this journey of flowing progressions is the one for you. Bring commitment and dedication to this workout, and you’ll be surprised by the results.

The secret to great results is the BenderBall Method of Core Training … developed by master trainer Leslee Bender. Each of Leslee's ab sculpting moves puts you in the perfect position for results. Combined with an effective method of selective stabilization, it cranks up the intensity and targets the muscles you want from all sides - your upper abs, the sides and those hard to reach lower abs. What you see in the gym are people doing a gazillion crunches, and they don’t know why they’re not getting results. With a regular crunch on the floor, you’re limited. You can only go forward; you can’t go back. With the Bender Ball, you’re getting extension back and flexion forward, which works your muscles more effectively.
